Products and Services

  1. Offers

Nothing contained in this Site constitutes an offer to buy or sell products or services of Mackenzie or any of its affiliates. Mackenzie products and services are only offered in jurisdictions where they may be lawfully offered for sale. All products and services are subject to the terms and conditions of applicable agreements, prospectuses and laws. It is important to note that not all products, services and information are available in all jurisdictions outside Canada. This Site should not be considered an offer to sell or solicitation to buy any investment fund or other product, service or information to anyone in any jurisdiction in which an offer or solicitation is not authorized or cannot be legally made or to any person to whom it is unlawful to make an offer or solicitation. Prospective investors who are not resident in Canada should consult with their financial advisor to determine whether these products and services may be lawfully sold in their jurisdiction.

  2. U.S. Dollar Settlement Option

All fund performance and distribution information is based on each fund's net asset value per unit which is calculated in Canadian dollars. All US dollar NAV, performance and distribution information is calculated by converting the corresponding Canadian dollar information to US dollars using the daily exchange rate. Please note that the U.S. Dollar Settlement Option is offered as a convenience for investors who prefer to transact in US dollars. Holding fund securities under the U.S. Dollar Settlement Option has no impact on the overall performance of your investment within the fund and does not act as a hedge against currency fluctuations between the Canadian and US dollars, nor does it negate the effect of any hedging within a fund. Please refer to the prospectus for further details on the U.S. Dollar Settlement Option or speak to your advisor.

  3. Calculators

The Calculators found on this website are provided for illustrative purposes only. The Calculators are educational tools and do not constitute advice with respect to investment, financial, legal, accounting, tax or similar matters.

  4. Prospectuses

Important information about any mutual fund or ETF is contained in its Prospectus, Annual Information Form, Fund Facts document, ETF Facts document and in its Management Report on Fund Performance. This includes the mutual fund's or ETF's investment objective, purchase options and applicable charges. You can view copies of these documents on this Site, or at www.sedar.com. All mutual funds and ETFs are sold by Prospectus. This Site should not be considered an offer to sell or a solicitation to buy any mutual fund or ETF or other products or services available from Mackenzie.

  5. Performance

Commissions, trailing commissions, management fees and expenses all may be associated with mutual fund investments and the use of an asset allocation service. The indicated rates of return for the funds are the historical annual compounded total returns including changes in unit value and reinvestment of all distributions and do not take into account sales, redemption, distribution or optional charges or income taxes payable by any investor that would have reduced returns. Mutual funds are not guaranteed, their values change frequently and past performance may not be repeated. Mutual fund securities are not insured by the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation or by any other government deposit insurer.

With respect to money market funds, the performance data provided assumes reinvestment of distributions only and does not take into account sales, redemption, distribution or optional charges or income taxes payable by any investor that would have reduced returns. There can be no assurances that the fund will be able to maintain its net asset value per security at a constant amount or that the full amount of your investment in the fund will be returned to you. Past performance may not be repeated.

  6. Index Disclosure

The indices cited are widely accepted benchmarks for investment performance within their relevant regions, sectors or asset class, represent non-managed investment portfolios, and are not necessarily indicative of future investment returns.

  7. Distribution Disclosure

The payment of distributions is not guaranteed and may fluctuate. The payment of distributions should not be confused with a fund's performance, rate of return or yield. If distributions paid by the fund are greater than the performance of the fund, your original investment will shrink. Distributions paid as a result of capital gains realized by a fund, and income and dividends earned by a fund are taxable in your hands in the year they are paid. Your adjusted cost base will be reduced by the amount of any returns of capital. If your adjusted cost base goes below zero, you will have to pay capital gains tax on the amount below zero.

  8. Segregated Funds Disclosure

The Mackenzie Segregated Funds' individual variable annuity policy is issued by The Canada Life Assurance Company, a Mackenzie affiliate.

A description of the key features of the individual variable insurance contract is contained in the information folder. Subject to any applicable guarantee, any amount that is allocated to a segregated fund is invested at the risk of the contractholder and may increase or decrease in value.

  9. Mackenzie Charitable Giving Fund

Commissions, trailing commissions, management fees and expenses all may be associated with mutual funds. A charitable administration fee and charitable operating expenses will also apply. Please read the prospectus before investing and the Program Guide before donating. Mutual funds are not guaranteed, their values change frequently and past performance may not be repeated. The information is general in nature and is not intended to be professional tax advice. Donations should not be made for tax considerations alone. Each donor's situation is unique and advice should be received from a financial advisor.

  10. Morningstar Star Ratings

Morningstar Star Ratings reflect performance as of a particular date and are subject to change monthly. The ratings are an objective, quantitative measure of a fund's historical risk-adjusted performance relative to other funds in its category. Only funds with at least a three-year track record are considered. Ratings are calculated based on a fund's three-, five- and ten-year performance returns, as available. The overall rating is a weighted combination of the three-, five- and ten-year ratings. A fund can only be rated if there are a sufficient number of funds in its peer group to allow comparison for at least three years. For each time period, the top 10% of the funds in a category get five stars. For more details on the calculation of Morningstar Star Ratings, see morningstar.ca.

Any such views are subject to change at any time based upon markets and other conditions and Mackenzie disclaims any responsibility to update such views. These views are not a recommendation to buy or sell and may not be relied on as investment advice and, because investment decisions for Mackenzie funds or ETFs are based on numerous factors, may not be relied on as an indication of trading intent on behalf of any Mackenzie fund or ETF.

Speculation or stated beliefs about future events, such as market and economic conditions, company or security performance, upcoming product offerings or other projections are "forward-looking statements". These forward-looking statements represent the beliefs of the speaker/author and do not necessarily represent the views of Mackenzie. 13. Pollara investor study results

A study conducted by Pollara found that 61 per cent of retail investors would prefer to buy their ETFs from a Canadian-based provider, believing local firms are more focused on Canadian investor needs and also citing the stability of the Canadian financial system.

This study was conducted by Pollara Strategic Insights with an online sample of 1,500 adult Canadians and was conducted between February 14th and 20th, 2020. Results from a probability sample of this size could be considered accurate to within ±2.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

Email Safety & Online Fraud

Email Safety (“Phishing”)

Email fraud is something that Mackenzie Investments (“Mackenzie”) takes very seriously. We have security systems and procedures in place to ensure that you can manage your investments in a safe and secure way. While we take every precaution to ensure your online safety, there are further steps you can take to protect yourself and your finances.

The following is information about some common types of email fraud and what you can do to prevent them.

Phishing

“Phishing” (pronounced “fishing”) refers to the use of email or websites to fraudulently obtain personal and financial information. One method involves sending “spoof” emails purporting to be from legitimate, trustworthy companies. Recipients are asked to click on links leading them to what they believe are legitimate websites, but are actually fraudulent websites created by the perpetrators. Recipients are then asked to enter personal and financial information on these websites, and the information is used to commit fraud.

Typically, phishing emails claim that there is an urgent matter or security breach that requires your immediate attention. Perpetrators often use fear or threats to extract personal and financial information. This information can then be used to access accounts.

Tips:

  • Be wary of emails from unknown or unsolicited sources. If you do not recognize the sender of the email, do not open attachments and delete the email.
  • Do not click on links in emails. If you want to visit a certain website, open a new browser and type the URL directly in the browser.
  • Avoid providing personal or financial information in an email to an unfamiliar recipient. Think about whether the alleged sender would send the type of email in question or ask for the type of information requested.

Spoofed Websites

Another form of phishing is the use of websites to fraudulently obtain personal and financial information. Having clicked on a link, users are led to websites that mimic the characteristics of legitimate websites. These websites are in fact fraudulent sites created by the perpetrators. The website then asks for personal and financial information.

Tips:

  • Check that the web address in the browser’s Address bar is correct and one you recognize. If in doubt, type in the company’s root address (e.g., www.mackenzieinvestments.com) and navigate to your desired page from there.
  • Look for the secure transaction symbol (a key or padlock) on the bottom of your browser screen before entering any personal or financial information.
  • Save regularly-viewed websites as favourites so that you return to the same URL.

What to watch out for: 3 types of common fraud scams

Fake Job Postings Scam

On various websites and social media platforms you may encounter fake job postings. As part of this scam, you receive an offer via email to interview for a work-from-home position. A job interview is conducted online using a chat-related app (e.g. Google Hangouts, WhatsApp) and you are told you have been offered the job. Upon acceptance of the job offer, you are provided with a cheque as payment to purchase the necessary equipment, software, and training materials. You are then instructed to wire a payment to a specific vendor. Typically, the original cheque does not clear, and you end up being out the money that was wired to the “vendor”.

Tips:

  • Be mindful where you post your resume; scammers use legitimate websites to seek out victims.
  • A legitimate employer will never send funds and request a portion of it back.
  • Do your research. A simple search on the Internet can save you thousands of dollars.
  • If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

Lottery Scam

The fraudsters mail out letters indicating that you are the winner of a large sweepstakes prize (hundreds of thousands of dollars). You are told that in order to receive the prize, you will need to pay various fees, and a fraudulent Mackenzie Investments cheque is provided to cover the fees. You deposit the cheque, withdraw funds, and send those funds as the fee payment to the fraudsters. The cheque does not clear, and you are out the amount of the fees.

Real Estate Scam

The fraudsters send out fraudulent payment memos to law firms throughout North America. These memos are on Mackenzie Investments letterhead, are signed by a fake employee, and a large fraudulent cheque is enclosed. The memos claim that Mackenzie was instructed to make a large sum payment on behalf of a third-party to the law firm, and state that further instructions will follow once the funds have been deposited. The law firm is then instructed to send money to cover the costs associated with the fund transfer. The cheque does not clear, and the law firm is out the money that they sent to the fraudster.

Keeping you informed

As a reminder, Mackenzie Investments will never ask you for sensitive personal information such as social insurance numbers, bank account numbers or login credentials via unencrypted e-mail or without speaking to you regarding the request. If you have questions about this program, you may contact Mackenzie Investments at 1-888-387-0614 or refer to our website for updates on how we are responding at Client support for COVID-19.
